Alert Management¶
With SMART alerts, you can have confidence that your site is operating smoothly. When incidents do occur, you can review the data to gain a full understanding of what happened.
Events¶
SMART currently supports the following events for alert notifications:
Breach Alerts: Occur when a resource breaches an exclusion zone.
SOS Alerts: Alarms when a worker presses the SOS button on a compatible tracking device
Unplug Alerts: Triggered when a tracking device has potentially been disconnected from a piece of equipment
Alert Notifications¶
The Alert Management screen has three panels: Contacts, Alert Rules and Zones. Assign contacts to rules, then assign those rules to exclusion zones or SOS alert zones. A contact or rule can be used in more than one place.
Contact Management¶
Click Create Contact in the Contacts panel and enter their name, email and optional phone number. Use the pencil icon to edit a contact. Contact details are shared across their assignments. Registering an alert contact does not create a SMART user account.
Select a rule and use a contact’s plus button to assign them. Use the minus button to remove an assignment. An assigned contact can be marked as a First Responder for that rule; the same contact can remain a regular recipient on another rule.
Alert Rules¶
Click Create Rule, give it a name, and set its active dates and weekly time windows in the project’s timezone. Each window has an explicit start and finish day, so Monday 22:00 to Tuesday 02:00 is one overnight window. A rule with no time windows is inactive; use 24/7 for continuous coverage.
Allowed Resource Roles (Excluded from Alerts) exempts the selected roles from that exclusion-zone rule. Exemptions apply to the selected roles themselves; select any child roles that also need an exemption. Other rules assigned to the same zone still apply independently.
Zone Assignments¶
Select a rule, choose Exclusion Zones or Alert Zones, and use a zone’s plus button to assign it. Use the minus button to remove the rule. Selecting a contact, rule or zone highlights its existing links.
A physical zone can have work, exclusion and alert types at the same time, sharing one boundary across those views. All three zone editors offer a Parent Zone selection. A parent organizes places; assigning a rule to it does not assign that rule to its children. Assign rules directly to every zone that needs them.
The alert-zone list is flat, and exclusion zones are grouped by type. These listings do not display the physical parent tree. The exclusion group’s Assign rule to all action makes assignments to the zones currently in that group; it does not establish inheritance for future zones or child types.
Exclusion-zone colours show their configured contacts: grey means no rule, yellow means rules without contacts, orange means contacts, and red means a first responder. Colours remain the same when a rule’s schedule becomes inactive.
Unplug notifications use the contacts in the project’s separately configured unplug-alert groups.
Alert History¶
Even if email notifications are not configured, SMART keeps a comprehensive record of all events on site. You can go back through the event history at any time. This can be used to gain a full understanding of site conditions when a potentially hazardous event occurred.
Breach History¶
A record of all exclusion zone breaches can be found in the Exclusion Logs tab.
Double-click on a row in the table to rewind SMART back to when the breach occurred.
SOS History¶
A record of all SOS occurences can be found in the SOS Alerts tab.
Similarly to breaches, you can double-click a row in this table to rewind SMART back to the moment the SOS occurred.
